South Africa

Hi guys ive left the island again!!!! Unfortunately its for work and it means staying on a gas rig...its 30 mins chopper ride from mossel bay which is near cape town....ive been on it for 7 days so far and this is my routine:
6.05am my bosses alarm goes off (all four of us are in same cabin)
6.25am my alarm goes off i get up
6.30am i go for breakfast: rice crispies and a foreign wheatabix plus coffee
6.45am start work..general electrical commisionning of fire and gas safety controller systems
09.00am tea break: coffee plus toast consummed
12.00 lunch break: a full cooked meal is avaliable i usually eat it even tho i know i will get fat
15.00 tea break: coffee plus a cream cake: i try and avoid cake but usually eat it even tho i know i will get fat.
18.30 dinner time and close of play: full cooked meal.

now the really mind numbing parts are the evening. There is NOTHING to do on a gas rig. there is a pool table and a tv plus the odd computer for net when its not foggy. but thats it!!!!

21.00 go for shower
21.30 lie down read book listen to music
22.00 go to sleep cos theres nothing else to do and im shattered

every day has been the same.

But to be fair the south african riggers are really friendly and quite funny.

I get 5 days off on thursday then back on for 18 days!!!! 18 days!!! i might jump off and swim to shore. there are seals ive seen them!!!

anyway thats it for now!!!

Back on Monkey Island

yep im back in uk the fat lady has sang. However we did get to see one more country before we landed on the island. The country was Oman, a small very hot country with oil. We bought the visa at airport and got a taxi tour around muscat. We had 8 hours to wait so we thought we may as well. Theres not a lot to see. Muscat is small 3 million peeps about the whole population of the country. But thats it we got on plane and landed at heathrow. Whereupon i went to the British Grand Prix which was good!! Now im back in Suffolk feverishly applying for jobs.

Thanks and kind regards

Its not over til the fat lady sings.

well for it to be over doesnt literally require a fat lady to sing it requires us to land safely on the island tomorrow.....but anyway i digress...let the blog proper commence!!!

Well blog readers!! after the best part of a year the trip is over!! we are back in smelly mumbai and catch plane tomorrow at 6am (terrible time, this means getting up at 3am to get taxi) . Yer so the last couple of weeks we spent in gujurhat, took 24 hours to get from udaipur to diu island on the worlds worst buses changing 3 times. The last two were government buses which are terrible but we got there. And Diu is a funny place! Alcohol is cheap and available unlike the rest of india (ex portugese colony like GOA), but only indians and the odd traveller go there. The indians start getting hammered at 10 in the morning then spend the day swimming in the sea in their clothes (men and women...although unfortunately occasionally the men strip down to their brown pants). Indians dont really know wot to do when they're drunk so they run around getting really excited shouting like headless chickens....Of course we got loads of hassle from them asking their standard question routine (what country, how much do you earn etc..) but they're friendly enough as per usual. Women get more hassle than men like everywhere else. We hired some mopeds too on the island which was great fun. I used to have a pedal start moped when i was a teenager these were almost identical, great fun roosting around beeping at indian people. Yer so after 10 days there we left for mumbai and here we are. Oh yer and another thing as soon as we arrived in mumbai we got approached for casting agents for a bollywood film starring Amitabh Bachchan. (They prey on tourists all the time). So we starred as extras in a film!! A restaurant scene, i think im a natural! ok thats it. Laters!!

James looking out of a window of the Monsoon palace in udaipur.

another set piece "comedy" photo!

The lake palace hotel which we couldnt get in because we were dressed too scruffy.

Watching Octopussy for the third time in thee days on the rooftop restaurant. It gets better with each viewing.

1. what country?
2. what is your name?
3. how much money job?
4. are you married?
5. ok bye.

if youre really unlucky they might sit and stare at you for a few minutes.

(The indian people are really friendly to be fair. I cant speak much hindi so shouldnt really complain at lack of variety in questions.)

The portugese built fort in diu in the union state of gujarhat.

The ok beaches in diu. Diu island is not goa by a long shot. It has character though.

Me looking rock on my sweet moped!! i think it went a whole 60 km/hr but thats a guess because the speedo didnt work.

the waves were big.

A few bods on diu island. there werent many travellers about. The ice cream wasnt bad....except for the heavenly hot sundae which had bananas in which i hate.
